 ~About AVID~

The the banner above says it all. AVID is a rigorous program for students with the potential of success. The big goal for all AVID students is to enter a four year college. This means at least 20 hours of comunity service, enrollment in at least one AP class throughout one of the four years of high school, and at least "C" on all classes.

On October, some of the AVID students took the PSAT. It is a practice test for the SAT and is recomended to all because it gives an idea of how the SAT will be like when they do take it.

AVID students are graded based on Tutorial, Participation, Projects/Group Work, Notebook Entries, Formal Writing Assignments, and organization (binder).

AVID Students are taken on college trips throughout the year and one during the year they will go to on a overnight trip. This means they must work hard to fundraise enough money for these trips. If you are and AVID Parent we ask that you do what you can to help. To find out about the activities we have planned some check out this page. It will tell you when and where the activity will happen.

The AVID Binder contains all of the classes and must stay neat and organized. Organzation will help AVID Students do much better in their classes. Below is a sample of an AVID Binder compared to an unorganized binder.

Learning to take conel notes is crucial for effective study and learning. Note-taking is a key AVID student characteristic. Students take notes (for every class) during lectures by using cornel note paper. They start with a proper heading and fron there write notes on the right side of the paper, questions on the left side of the paper, and a summary of what they learned during the lecture. In case cornel notes aren't taken durng class an alternative sheet called a learning chart, can be filled in. It consists of tree columns with a different question to fill in.

  • What I Did
  • How I worked and how I learned
  • What I Learned

By filling in a Learning chart AVID students get the points they would get with cornel notes.
